Today I am using clipart by Trina Clark.  If you would like to use the same tube, please purchase from the website www.digiscrapkits.com.

 

Supplies Needed
Tube of choice.  Best results with a tube that is 300 px in width or less. 
PSP 9: Should work in other versions
penta.com: color dot

Fantastic Machines: Paint Engine

 

Skill Level

This tutorial assumes you have a basic working knowledge of PSP.

 

Part 1: Preparation
Part 2: Frame

All settings will remain the same unless otherwise noted.

Part 1: Preparation

 

1. Open Tube of Choice in Paint Shop Pro, Duplicate (shift+D) and close the original

 

2. Image > Resize (If your tube is smaller than 300 pixels than you do not need to resize)

Settings:

Resample using: Smart Size: Checked

Lock aspect ratio: Checked

Width: 275 - 300

Height: Will self adjust

Note:

If your tube isn't very large, Bicubic

might be better than using Smart Size.

If your tube is smaller than 300 pixels you don't need to resize.

 

3. Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen (if necessary)

 

4. Using your Dropper Tool (E) choose two colors from your image.  A lighter and a dark color of the same hue. (You can also choose contrasting colors if you would like)

Part 2: Frame

 

1. Image > Canvas Size

Settings:

Add 40 pixels to width and height

Middle center placement

 

2. Layers > New Raster Layer

 

3. Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

4. Flood Fill new layer with your light color

 

5. Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > PaintEngine

Settings:

 

Brushes

Pull Intensity: .52

Lighten: .6

Bias: .15

Pull Intensity: .64

Lighten: .1

Bias: .17

Effect

Amount: 1.54

Wrapped Edges: Checked

Stroke

Type: Downhill

Input: Checked

Line: Not Checked

Length: 26

Radiate: 1.04

Motion Angle: 17

Curl: 60

Operation Angle: 108

Curl: 56

Direction Channel: R CHECKED

 

6. Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

Settings:

Default (click black arrow next to the drop down menu)

 

7. Selections > Select All (Ctrl+A)

 

8. Selections > Modify > Contract by 10 pixels

 

9. Layers > New Raster Layer, flood fill with your dark color

 

10. Effects > Plugins > penta.com > color dot

Settings:

Value: 92

Distance: 2

Color R: 255

Color G: 255

Color B: 255

 

11. Selections > Modify > Contract by 5 pixels

 

12. Layers > New Raster Layer

 

13. Flood fill with your light color

 

14. Effects > Texture Effects > Blinds

Settings:

Width: 3

Opacity: 30

Color: Dark Color

Horizontal: Unchecked

Light from left/top: Checked

 

15. Effects > Plugins > penta.com > color dot

 

16. Layers > New Raster Layer

 

17. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout (you can play with this settings for different effects)

Settings:

Vertical/Horizontal: 0

Opacity: 75

Blur: 30.00

Shadow Color: Dark Color

Fill interior with color: Unchecked

 

18. Selections > Select None

 

19. Move to your tube layer

 

20. Optional -- If you feel your tube should be a little smaller, now is the time to do it.  You can resize by 90-95%.  Resize all layers: Unchecked.

 

21. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical/Horizontal:  0

Opacity: 50

Blur: 5.00

Color: Black

Shadow on new layer: Not checked

 

22. Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

 

23. Image > Add Borders

Settings:

11 pixels, Symmetric checked: dark color

 

24. Selections > Select All (Ctrl+A)

 

25. Selections > Modify > Contract by 10 pixels

 

26. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout (you can play with this setting for different effects)

Settings:

 

Blur: 15.00

 

27. Selections > Invert

 

28. Effects > Plugins > penta.com > color dot

 

29. Selections > Select None 

 

30. Image > Add Borders

Settings:

1 pixels, Symmetric checked, dark color

Part 3: Background

 

1. Layers > Promote Background Layer

 

2. Image > Canvas Size

Settings:

Width: 1700 (or whatever suits your monitor)

Height: height of your image + 20

Middle left placement

Change left to 10

 

3. Layers > New Raster Layer

 

4. Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

 

5. Flood fill new layer with your light color or dark color.  Personal preference

 

6. Effects > Plugins > Fantastic Machines > PaintEngine

 

7. Effects > Image Effects > Seamless Tiling

 

8. Move back up to your frame layer

 

9. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow

Settings:

Vertical/Horizontal: 0

Opacity: 50

Blur: 10.00

Color: Black

Shadow on new layer: Not checked

 

10. If you would like to add accents, now is the time to do it.

 

11. Layers > New Raster Layer 

 

12. Add your watermark and add the credits for the artists work to your image.

 

13. File Export, jpeg Optimizer.  I usually set to 20%, but you can set to your liking.
